The spate of farmer suicides in Madhya Pradesh continues unabated. Two more peasants have committed suicide, taking the total number of such deaths to 38 in the past 22 days.

Bhopal: The spate of farmer suicides in Madhya Pradesh continues unabated. Two more peasants have committed suicide, taking the total number of such deaths to 38 in the past 22 days. Reuters[/caption] Shambhu Baiswar, 35, a resident of Chachai village in Shahdol district, committed suicide on Sunday by hanging himself from a tree, the police said on Monday. Police officer Abhimanyu Dubey said Shambhu, however, took the extreme step due to his illness. Shambhu’s family members also cited illness as the cause behind the suicide. Dubey said Shambhu’s family was not facing financial crisis and there was no loan to repay. In Sagar district, Premlal Ahirwar, 24, committed suicide by lying in front of a train on railway tracks. Sagar is the home district of Madhya Pradesh home minister Bhupendra Singh. According to family members, Premlal was worried over repayment of loan. According to opposition Congress, 57 farmers have cended their lives in the past 26 days in Madhya Pradesh.
