Congress is fighting the BJP in Madhya Pradesh assembly elections, but some of its candidates seem to be canvassing in Palestine. In a video that has now gone viral on internet and social media, ostensibly the Congress candidate in Khargone can be seen and heard rallying a public gathering to vote for her party in the name of Palestine and Israel’s war on Hamas that has, unfortunately, claimed many civilian lives too. The crowd was also led to “pray for the martyrs of Palestine.” Also, purportedly, the Congress candidate wants public mandate in Khargone to bring change in Israel-Palestine relations. In the clip, shared by political analyst and strategist Pramod Kumar Singh, a Congress candidate from Khargone can be heard saying, “Palestine mein masoom baccho ki lashey lag chuki hai, kya yeh hum atyachar sahenge? Kya Khargaon badlav laega? (In Palestine, innocent children are being killed. Should we bear this torcher?) The Congress leaders in Khargone, which has a favourable Muslim population, also held two-minute silence and said, “We are with Palestine.” Firstpost cannot verify the authenticity of the video.

The 230-seat Madhya Pradesh Assembly will go to polls in a single phase on November 17. The counting of votes will be held on December 3. The remarks came merely a month after the Congress Working Committee said it has a long-standing support “for the rights of the Palestinian people to land, self-government and to live with dignity and respect”. The grand old party had also passed a resolution and said the “CWC expresses its dismay and anguish on the war that has broken out in the Middle East where over a thousand people have been killed in the last two days.” Back then, the BJP accused the Congress of supporting Hamas with Union minister Pralhad Joshi asking how will the party protect the nation and its citizens when it is “openly standing with violence”. “Congress at it again! Supporting terror organisations and terrorism while innocent civilians lose their lives to bullets,” Joshi had said. “With this stand, the leading party of I.N.D.I Alliance has exposed itself to the nation. How will the party protect its nation and citizens when it is openly standing with violence,” Joshi added. Israel witnessed a surprise and unprecedented attack by Hamas on October 7.
