Jammu and Kashmir police on Friday sought help from the public to identify those involved in lynching of DSP Ayub Pandith outside Jamia Masjid.

Lynching of DSP Ayub Pandith: Kashmir police seeks public help to identify guilty

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir police on Friday sought help from the public to identify those involved in lynching of its officer outside Jamia Masjid in the city last week. “In order to arrest all those involved in the incident, the head of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has requested that if anyone having any knowledge or clue regarding the episode may contact the office of SP (City) North Srinagar,” a police spokesman said. The SIT also listed out several telephone numbers which can be contacted for passing on the information about the culprits. Sameer Yasir[/caption] “The name and particulars of the informant shall remain confidential,” the spokesman said. Deputy Superintendent of Police Mohammad Ayoub Pandith, who was on access control duty at Jamia Masjid in Nowhatta, was cornered by an unlawful assembly of people and lynched on the intervening night of 22 and 23 June, when Muslims across the Valley were observing ‘Shab-e-Qadr’. A case was registered under section 302 of RPC and the investigation taken up, the spokesman said, adding the SIT was constituted to speed up the investigation process. So far, five of the 12 persons identified by the police for their alleged involvement in the lynching incident, have been arrested.
