MHA seeks report from Punjab govt

Union Home Ministry has sought a detailed report on the blast inside the district court complex in Ludhiana in which one person died and many others were injured, officials said.

The home ministry also asked the Punjab government to inform it about the findings of the initial investigation and who could be possibly involved in the explosion, the officials said.

Ludhiana Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said the area has been sealed and forensic teams will collect samples from the blast site.

Punjab CM announces free treatment for all injured in Ludhiana blast

Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi blamed “anti-national"forces for trying to disturb the peace in the state. “As Punjab elections are approaching, some anti-national and anti-Punjab forces are trying to disturb peace. First, there was an attempt of sacrilege at Golden Temple in which they failed. Now, this blast. We are not going to spare culprits,” he said.

Punjab put on high alert, says Dy CM Sukhjinder Randhawa 

Deputy chief minister of Punjab Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa said that special teams have been deployed to probe the blast inside a court complex in Ludhiana in Punjab on Thursday afternoon. 

“Punjab has been put on high alert. Special teams have been deployed to probe the matter. I went and met the injured/suffered at the hospital. Peace and harmony of our punjab should never be disrupted,” said Randhawa.

‘Shocking, dastardly act’: Punjab CM on IED blast incident

Terming the Ludhiana bomb blast as a shocking and dastardly act, Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Thursday said that forces responsible for the incident would never succeed in their nefarious designs with a sole motive to destabilise the state.

Channi said that everybody knows the timing and the handiwork of those forces. “As the Assembly polls are drawing nearer with every passing day, which were hell bent upon to hatch such conspiracies to disturb the hard earned peace and harmony in the state. The Ludhiana Commissioner of Police confirmed that one person has died in the explosion and two have been injured.

“An explosion was heard near the Record Room on the second floor of the Ludhiana Court complex. One person died, two persons were injured in the incident. Bomb disposal team and forensics team has been called from Chandigarh for probe. There is no need to panic,” he told ANI.

The blast reportedly took place on Thursday at 12.22 pm inside a bathroom on the second floor of the building. The district court was crowded and functioning when the explosion took place. Two people were killed and four were seriously injured in a blast inside a court complex in Ludhiana in Punjab on Thursday. CM Charanjit Channi said that the blast was carried to disrupt law and order in the city ahead of Assembly polls. At least one person is reported to have been killed, while four others have been injured in a suspected IED blast in the Ludhiana court complex on Thursday. As per initial reports, many more are feared to be injured. The blast reportedly took place in the washroom on the second floor. According to  NDTV , four people have also been reported to have suffered serious injuries in the blast which took place in the second storey of the district court complex at a time when the district court was functioning. Eyewitnesses have reported said that the blast seems to be a “powerful blast" as walls of the washroom have been damaged and window panes smashed. Following the explosion, the bathroom grill fell on the vehicles parked on the ground floor. Police have cordoned off the area and fire tenders are on the spot. The cause of the blast is yet to be ascertained. Former Chief Minister of Punjab Captain Amarinder Singh tweeted about the blast, saying that the police “must get to the bottom of this”.

This is a breaking story, more details are awaited.
