The entire incident was caught on the camera by a journalist who was passing through the area. In the images that subsequently went viral on social media, shows Pradeep Kumar, the sub-inspector throwing the man’s typewriter.

“I have been sitting outside the GPO for 35 years with my typewriter, he (the policeman) just came, started abusing (me) and broke my typewriter,” Kumar told ANI.

According to Hindustan Times , reports say that the policeman smashed the typewriter because Kumar had failed to meet his alleged extortion demands.

Pradeep was suspended after Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav instructed the Lucknow SSP to suspend him for “beating up an innocent wage earner”, reports the Indian Express .

The CMO in a tweet also ordered the DSP and DM of the city to locate Kumar and gift a new typewriter.
