New Delhi: Lt Gen PR Kumar will on Saturday take over as Director General Military Operations (DGMO) from Lt Gen Vinod Bhatia, who is retiring today. “Lt Gen Kumar will take over as DGMO tomorrow from Lt Gen Vinod Bhatia who will retire today after a tenure of more than 18 months,” an Army release said.[caption id=“attachment_1413079” align=“alignleft” width=“380”]

Reuters[/caption] The DGMO is an important office controlling the operations of the Army and is also responsible for immediate resolution of border conflicts with Pakistan and is soon expected to be assigned the same task with China as well. An alumnus of National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, Kumar was commissioned into Regiment of Artillery on 15 December 1976. He is an aviator and was till now holding the responsibility of the Directorate General of Army Aviation. Kumar has held a variety of command, staff and instructional assignments. He has also commanded a medium regiment, an infantry brigade in north and an Infantry Division in the east. He commanded the prestigious Strike Corps, on the South Western Front. PTI
