LS polls 2024: Bihar, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh will vote on all 7 phases, check details

Just like the 2019 general elections, Lok Sabha elections 2024 will also be held in seven phases. But the voting, this year, is starting almost a week after and will be ending later than the previous poll.

Lok Sabha elections 2024 will be held from April 19 to June 1, while the LS polls 2019 will be held from April 11 to May 19.

Also, Lok Sabha polls 2024 results will be announced on June 4, the date for which in the last general election was May 23.

Let us first know phase-wise dates on which voting will be held during the Lok Sabha polls 2024.

Phase 1: April 19
Phase 2: April 26
Phase 3: May 7
Phase 4: May 13
Phase 5: May 20
Phase 6: May 25
Phase 7: June 1

It is worth mentioning that West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar will vote on all the seven phases of Lok Sabha elections 2024.

Why West Bengal will vote on all 7 phases?

Until 2019, West Bengal used to see a maximum of five phases of elections, but that year, the state along with Bihar was put into the same bracket of seven-phase elections as in the case of Uttar Pradesh.

The Election Commission of India’s (ECI) decision, according to political experts, reflects the political volatility in both Bengal and Bihar.

For Bengal, the political situation and circumstances changed after the violence-ridden 2018 Panchayat polls. Also, the Assembly election in Bengal in 2021 which was held in eight phases witnessed a series of clashes and incidents of political violence.

To ensure the smooth conduct of the Lok Sabha elections 2024, the ECI has deployed 920 companies of central police forces.

Phase-wise poll in states

As many as 22 states will have voting in a single phase, and polling in four states will be held in two phases.

Two states will have polling in three phases, and three states will vote on four poll dates.

Two states will vote on five poll dates and three states will vote on all the polling dates.

Phase-wise poll in states

In the first phase, polling will be held in 21 states/UTs. They are:

Arunachal Pradesh (2), Assam (5), Bihar (4), Chhattisgarh (1), Madhya Pradesh (6), Maharashtra (5), Manipur (2), Meghalaya (2), Mizoram (1), Nagaland (1), Rajasthan (12), Sikkim (1), Tamil Nadu (39), Tripura (1), Uttar Pradesh (8), Uttarakhand (5), West Bengal (3), Andaman and Nicobar Islands (1), Jammu and Kashmir (1), Lakshadweep (1), Puducherry (1)

In the second phase, voting will be held in 13 states/UTs.

Assam (5), Bihar (5), Chhattisgarh (3), Karnataka (14), Kerala (20), Madhya Pradesh (7), Maharashtra (8), Manipur (1), Rajasthan (13), Tripura (1), Uttar Pradesh (8), West Bengal (3), Jammu and Kashmir (1).

Third phase will see voting in 12 states/UTs.

Assam (4), Bihar (5), Chhattisgarh (7), Goa (2), Gujarat (26), Karnataka (14), Madhya Pradesh (8), Maharashtra (11), Uttar Pradesh (10), West Bengal (4), Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu (2), Jammu and Kashmir (1).

In the fourth phase, voting will be held in 10 states/UTs.

Andhra Pradesh (25), Bihar (5), Jharkhand (4), Madhya Pradesh (8), Maharashtra (11), Odisha (4), Telangana (17), Uttar Pradesh (13), West Bengal (8), Jammu and Kashmir (1).

Eight states/UTs will vote in fifth phase of LS polls 2024.

Seven states/UTs will be voting in the sixth phase.

In the seventh and the last phase voting will be held in eight states/UTs.
