Lok Sabha Election 2024 Phase 3: Voter turnout recorded at 62.87%, Assam leads, Gujarat marks lowest

Assam recorded the highest voter turnout at 75.30 per cent, followed by Goa at 74.47 per cent , and West Bengal at 73.93 per cent.

In the third phase of polling, a voter turnout of 62.87 percent was recorded during the third phase on Tuesday. Assam, Goa and West Bengal recorded the highest voting percentages at 75.3%, 74.47% and 73.93% respectively.

In Madhya Pradesh, a turnout of 66.63% was recorded in these nine constituencies- Morena, Bhind (SC-reserved), Gwalior, Guna, Sagar, Vidisha, Bhopal, Rajgarh and Betul (ST-reserved)- in the 2019 general elections and an overall turnout of 71.20% in Madhya Pradesh.

A voter turnout of 54.09 per cent was recorded in 11 out of the 48 Lok Sabha constituencies in Maharashtra, where polling was held today in the third phase of the general elections, officials said.

The first two phases of polling in the state saw more than 62 per cent voter turnout. As per the data shared by the election authorities, the Kolhapur seat saw the highest turnout of 63.71 per cent, while the Baramati seat, where two members of the politically influential Pawar family were locked in a bitter tussle, recorded the lowest turnout of 47.84 per cent.In Baramati, Sharad Pawar’s daughter Supriya Sule was pitted against Sunetra Pawar, wife of the veteran leader’s estranged nephew and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.

A turnout of over 57 per cent was recorded in 10 constituencies in Uttar Pradesh that went to polls in the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections on Tuesday, according to the latest Election Commission figures. Agra witnessed 53.99 per cent polling, Aonla 57.08 per cent, Budaun 54.05 per cent, Bareilly 57.88 per cent, Etah 59.17 per cent, Fatehpur Sikri 57.09 per cent, Firozabad 58.22 per cent, Hathras 55.36 per cent, Mainpuri 58.59 per cent and Sambhal 62.81 per cent.

Polling in five constituencies in Bihar in the third phase of Lok Sabha elections passed off peacefully, with a provisional voter turnout of 60 per cent, almost one per cent less than that of the 2019 general elections, officials said.

Two persons engaged on poll duty died of cardiac arrest in Araria and Supaul Lok Sabha seats, they said. The polling was also held in Jhanjharpur, Madhepura and Khagaria constituencies.

The voting was largely peaceful, barring an incident of damage caused to an EVM following a minor clash between two groups of supporters inside a polling station in Khagaria, officials said.

The voter turnout in these five Lok Sabha seats in the 2019 general elections was 61.22 per cent. Araria recorded 62.80 per cent voter turnout followed by Supaul (62.40), Madhepura (61) Khagaria (58.20) and Jhanjharpur (55.50).

“Voting began at 7 am amid tight security. After the deadline for voting ended at 6 pm, around 60 per cent voter turnout was recorded. But this figure is provisional,” Chief Electoral Officer H R Srinivasa said.

The turnout percentage will increase voters had been in queues at certain booths at 6 pm, he said. The CEO said that voters boycotted polling at nine booths out of total 9,848 polling centers because of certain local issues.
