Slamming the Akhilesh Yadav government in Uttar Pradesh, he questioning why the Chief Minister had failed to turn up at the village and visit the victims’ families. He also wondered whether this pointed to some “collusion” between the state government and the accused. Paswan was accompanied by his son Chirag Paswan, who has been elected to Lok Sabha and is the party’s Parliamentary Board chairman. Chirag said that while it is understandable to some extent if the state government is not able to provide electricity and water supply, the minimum that it can do is to provide security. “If you are not being able to provide right to life, then what kind of government this is. Security to life is the basic right of every citizen and every government has to provide that,” he said. After meeting family members of the victims, the Union Minister said that the entire family is scared and there should be permanent police camp in the village. He demanded that the Chief Minister should visit the village, the case should be given a speedy trial like in the Nirbhaya case and the accused handed down ememplary punishment. 2.30 pm: 22-year-old gangrape in UP, BJP protests at Akhilesh’s house A 22-year-old girl was allegedly gangraped, forced to drink acid and later strangulated to death in Baheri area in Bareilly, police sources said on Monday. PTI[/caption] The victim’s body was recovered from a field in Aithpura village on Saturday with her face mutilated, police said. They further added that her postmortem report, which was filed today, revealed that she was gangraped and later strangulated. Police said that acid was detected from the stomach of the victim, which indicated that she was forced to drink it before being murdered. Her face was mutilated by pouring acid and petrol to conceal her identity, they added. SSP J Ravindra Gaur said there was a possibility of the victim hailing from Uttrakhand, and therefore a team has been dispatched there for investigation. Deputy SP Baheri Kalu Singh said police was investigating several aspects of the crime. It is being suspected that it could be a case of honour killing or could be related to flesh trade, he said. It was only last week that two minor Dalit girls were gangraped in Badaun. BJP has launched a massive protest in Lucknow outside Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav’s residence over incidents of sexual violence in Uttar Pradesh. Heavy security has been placed outside the CM’s residence and police had resorted to using water cannons against the protesters. The protesters have demanded that First Information Reports (FIRs) be filed against UP police officers. Home Minister Rajnath Singh has also written a letter to the UP government, asking why the SC/ST Act has not been used to place charges against the accused. Earlier, women workers of the BJP had protested at Akhilesh’s office as well, and had given the government an ultimatum, saying that if incidents of atrocities against women were not checked then they would gherao the Chief Minister’s office again on 2 June.
