Police said the mishap occured in Dholera village in south-west Haryana, close to the Haryana-Rajasthan border and nearly 400 km from the state capital Chandigarh (over 170 km from Delhi).

The district administration began an operation to rescue labourers still buried under the debris.

“An under-construction wall collapsed due to heavy rainfall in the area,” Narnaul sub-divisional magistrate Mahesh Kumar said.

Most victims and injured were labourers from Rajasthan and nearby areas.
