A Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed near Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer on Tuesday during an operational training sortie. The pilot ejected safely.

Tejas crashed at Jawahar colony in Jaisalmer which is around 100 km away from the venue where Prime Minister Narendra Modi is addressing the Bharat Shakti programme.

A Court of Inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the accident.

This is the first crash of the indigenous jet - Tejas - since it first flew 23 years ago.

The crash site is around 100 km away from the venue where Prime Minister Narendra Modi is addressing the Bharat Shakti programme.

People gathered and recorded the video which showed thick, black smoke emitting from the crashed LCA Tejas aircraft.
