A girl allegedly tried to commit suicide by jumping in front of a speeding train in Metro Railway in Kolkata on Wednesday after hearing the news that her lover had jumped from the Howrah Bridge, the police said. However, she survived. Krishna took the extreme step on Wednesday evening after hearing that her boyfriend Bikash Sahu had jumped into the Hooghly river from Howrah Bridge following a quarrel with her over telephone, the police told PTI. Times Of India quoted Pallab Kanti Ghosh, joint CP (crime) of the Kolkata Police as saying “It’s possible they had an argument during the first phone call. At 2.30 pm, the woman called him again from Kalighat Metro. Someone else picked up the phone and said he has jumped. Reuters[/caption] A college student, Krishna is a resident of Ballygunge in Kolkata . Her boyfriend Bikash has been missing since jumping into the river and River Traffic Police personnel have been carrying out search and rescue operations, sources told PTI. After hearing the news, Krishna herself jumped in front of a Dum Dum bound metro train entering the station, but fell in the drain between the tracks and despite the motorman applying the brakes, one coach went over her. The motorman, D Chaki told Times Of India that after getting down he found the girl was still alive. However, when he asked her to crawl out, she asked him to leave her alone since she didn’t want to live anymore. Krishna was finally taken to a local hospital where she received treatment for the minor injuries she had sustained.
