Kerala: Beedi tycoon accused of killing guard slapped with KAAPA

Thrissur (Kerala): Controversial Beedi tycoon Mohammed Nisham, accused of killing a security guard with his Hummer SUV, was on Monday slapped with anti-social activities act under which he will not be entitled for bail for six months. [caption id=“attachment_2141537” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] ![File photo of Nisham Muhammad ](https://images.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/nisham-muhammad-kerala.jpg) File photo of Nisham Muhammad[/caption] Thrissur District Collector MS Jaya, in her capacity as District Magistrate, issued orders to slap Kerala Anti Social Activities (Prevention) Act on the businessman after a recommendation from City Police commissioner R Nishanthini. Under KAAPA, the accused is not entitled for bail for six months. Out of the 13 cases pending against him, provisions under KAAPA could be framed in six cases, Collector told PTI. The act is specifically to provide for the effective prevention and control of certain kinds of anti-social activities in the state in which a person causes or likely to cause directly or indirectly any feeling of insecurity, danger or fear among general public or any section thereof, or any danger to safety of individual, safety of public health or any loss to public exchequer. Nisham in a fit of rage had assaulted security guard Chandra Bose and later rammed him with his Hummer vehicle, following an argument over delay in opening the gate at a posh residential township here on 29 January. The incident had evoked widespread protests in the state and Chief Minister Oommen Chandy visited the victim at the hospital while he was under treatment and had assured his family that a speedy probe would be conducted. Chandra Bose succumbed to his injuries on 16 February. PTI
