All govt hospitals and health institutions functioning, say officials

All health institutions at primary, secondary and tertiary level in Kashmir division are functioning fully with sufficient number of doctors and para-medical staff on duty, officials told PTI, adding that medicines are also available in sufficient quantity

Army launches ‘Mission Reach Out’ to provide essential services

The Army has launched “Mission Reach Out” in Jammu to ensure basic necessities and essential services are available in the region, PTI reported officials as saying.

The mission included mobile medical care units with essential medicines and women medical officers, providing water in locations where the supply was disrupted, provision of essentials, including rations, assistance in transportation of patients to hospitals, facilitating people to speak to their near and dear ones through Army exchange and creating a safe environment for ATMs, banks and hospitals to function, a spokeperson said.

Foreign media outlets claim large-scale protests took place in Srinagar, MHA issues denial

On Saturday, BBC shared video footage of a protest that it said took place in Srinagar on Friday. Reuters also reported that the police used tear gas and police to fight back at least 10,000 people who were holding a protest. However, an MHA statement said, “There are media reports claiming there was a protest involving 10,000 people in Srinagar. This is completely fabricated and incorrect. There have been a few stray protests in Srinagar/Baramulla and none involved a crowd of more than 20 people.”

ATMs being replenished with cash on regular basis, says official

District Magistrates have made elaborate arrangements for the forthcoming Eid-ul-Azha, an official spokesman said, adding treasuries, banks and ATMs have been made functional even on holiday in the run-up to the festival.

The replenishment of cash in ATMs has been ensured on regular basis and people are drawing money from ATMs as and when required, said officials, adding salaries of all employees and wages of casual labourers too have been released in advance.

Administration attempting to provide transport at Srinagar civil airport, bus station

ANI has quoted Rohit Kansal, principal secretary of the Planning Commission in Srinagar as saying, “We are trying to provide transport at Civil Airport Srinagar, as well as at TRC (Bus Station), so that people can reach their home without any difficulty.”

Six-hour relaxation in restrictions at Poonch

Several markets stay open ahead of Eid, magistrates deployed to assist people

Ahead of Eid-ul Azha, banks, ATMs and quite a few markets remained open on Sunday in Kashmir and restrictions were eased allowing people to come out to shop, while the administration said it was taking steps to facilitate availability of food and other items and offering of prayers in mosques on Monday.

The usual hustle and bustle of the festival was missing in the Valley where normal life has been paralysed following heavy security deployment, restrictions on movement and curtailing of communication links after the abrogation of special status to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 on 5 August.

Officials said there has been no report of violence anywhere in the Valley.

Normalcy was fast returning in most of the Jammu region where restrictions under section 144 CrPc have been completely lifted in five districts. In the other five district, restrictions have been relaxed to facilitate Eid preparations, officials said.

Situation in Jammu and Kashmir peaceful, no untoward incident in last one week: state police

The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday night said the situation in the state was peaceful and no untoward incident has been reported in last one week.

“There has been no untoward incident barring minor stone-pelting which was dealt with on the spot and was nipped in the bud,” Director General of Police Dilbagh Singh told PTI.

He was asked about the situation in the state after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi told mediapersons in New Delhi that situation in J-K has deteriorated. Minutes after Gandhi made the statement, the Srinagar Police also tweeted that the situation was peaceful.

“Situation in valley has remained normal today. No untoward incident has been reported. At selective locations restriction was lifted temporarily,” it said.
