The Ministry of External Affairs on Wednesday announced that the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra will commence from June and continue till August 2025. A total of 750 pilgrims have been chosen through a computerised draw that ensured total fairness in the selection process.

The random and gender-balanced draw was conducted today, with 5,561 successfully registering online. It was conducted by Union Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh in New Delhi.

The selected candidates were informed via SMS and email. The ministry said that the 750 yatris will travel in five batches from June to August and can check the details about their travel on the official Yatra website ( https://kmy.gov.in).

The Yatra will follow two fully motorable routes — Lipulekh and Nathu La — eliminating the need for intense trekking. The Lipulekh route will host five groups of 50 participants each, while the Nathu La route will accommodate ten such groups. Every group will be supported by two designated liaison officers to assist throughout the journey.

The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is a spiritually significant pilgrimage for Hindus, Jains, and Buddhists, offering devotees a rare chance to visit the revered Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar in Tibet — both considered sacred in their respective faiths.

The Yatra was suspended initially in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequently because of the military standoff between the two sides on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh.

The militaries of India and China completed disengagement of troops at the two remaining friction points of Demchok and Depsang under a pact sealed on October 21 last year.

In January, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri visited Beijing and held talks with his Chinese counterpart Sun Weidong. In the meeting, the two sides decided to resume the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra and agreed to take certain people-centric steps to “stabilise and rebuild” ties.
