Justice for Gauri Lankesh, repeal of AFSPA amongst 15 demands passed at human rights conference in Delhi

New Delhi: Justice for slain journalist Gauri Lankesh, release of Delhi University professor GN Saibaba, probe into alleged human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir were among 15 demands made in a resolution that was passed unanimously at a two-day human rights conference. PTI[/caption] Organised by an umbrella organisation of human rights bodies, national confederation of human rights organisations (NCHRO), the conference held on 28 and 29 October  saw participation of several activists and also relatives of victims of alleged human rights violations. Senior journalist Gauri Lankesh was shot dead at her house in September by unidentified bike-borne assailants. During one of the sessions, JNU professor Nivedita Menon said the new chancellors appointed by the NDA government were “trying to introduce a culture of “Rashtravaad” (nationalism). A law against torture, repeal of laws like armed forces special powers act (AFSPA) and ending fake encounters were some other demands.
