Abhijit Iyer-Mitra has been under judicial custody in Odisha’s Jharpada jail since 24 October for more than two months.

Journalist Abhijit Iyer-Mitra, who was arrested for allegedly making derogatory remarks against Odisha, the Konark Sun Temple and the state’s MLAs, was admitted to a Bhubaneswar hospital after complaining of stomach pain, ANI reported. Image courtesy: Twitter/@ANI[/caption] Mitra has been in judicial custody since 24 October and lodged at Jharpada jail. According to National Herald , he was under severe mental trauma and was ailing since Friday. On 17 November, the Odisha Assembly passed a motion to forgive Mitra. On the first day of the Assembly Session, a House committee which was formed to investigate the matter recommended the remission in its report which was submitted to the Assembly Speaker Pradeep Amat. On 7 November, a camp court at Jharpada Jail reserved its verdict on Mitra’s bail plea and extended his judicial custody for 14 days. During a visit to the Konark Sun Temple on 16 September, 2018, Mitra posted a satirical video on Twitter, where he allegedly made derogatory remarks insulting Odisha, its culture, tradition and the lawmakers.
