JNU row: Umar Khalid, Anirban Bhattacharya remanded to three-day police custody

New Delhi: Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya, facing sedition charges for allegedly raising “anti-India” slogans, were remanded to three-day police custody on Wednesday, sources said. The proceedings were not held in Patiala House Courts complex here due to security concerns. [caption id=“attachment_2641716” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] Protests at JNU. Tarique Anwar/Firstpost[/caption] According to sources, the proceedings were held in a police station in south Delhi and a magistrate was called for conducting the remand proceedings. The magistrate allowed Delhi Police to quiz them for three days. Both the students surrendered before police in the midnight outside a gate of the university. A case against Khalid and Bhattacharya was registered at Vasant Kunj police station. Kanhaiya was arrested in a sedition case on 12 February after the event held on the university campus against the execution of parliament attack convict Afzal Guru. He allegedly shouted anti-India slogans at the event. IANS
