As far as bizarre cases go, this one’s right up there. The Jharkhand Police were in for a shock when they discovered that four constables from the force had accompanied a murder accused to a brothel in neighbouring West Bengal. On 20 March, the four constables, who have now been suspended, had taken murder convict Baiju Yadav from the Koderma jail to a Ranchi hospital which is around 200 kilometres away for a check-up but instead of returning to the jail after the procedure decided to paint the town red. Reuters[/caption] According to a Hindustan Times report, when a West Bengal police team raided a brothel at Kulti in Asansol district, which is near the border of the two states, the Jharkhand cops were found drunk and in civilian clothes, but still carrying their guns. The prisoner, Yadav, was brought back the same night but has said he was ‘forcibly’ taken by the policemen accompanying him to the red light area. The four Jharkhand constables are reportedly still in the custody of the West Bengal police.
