Shortly after he concluded the Ram Temple consecration ceremony, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said that January 22, 2024 is not merely a date but marks the advent of a new era.

Addressing a gathering after the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony at the Shri Ram Janmaboomi Temple in Ayodhya, the Prime Minister said, “The sunrise of 22 January has brought a wonderful glow. January 22 , 2024, is not a date written on the calendar. It is the origin of a new time cycle….” He said that Ram Lalla will not stay in a tent but his new grand home now and expressed confidence that Lord Ram will forgive the people of India for the delay.

“Today, I also apologise to Lord Shri Ram. There must be something lacking in our effort, sacrifice and penance that we could not do this work for so many centuries. Today the work has been completed. I believe that Lord Shri Ram will definitely forgive us today…,” said the Prime Minister. PM Modi said that the legal battle over the existence of Lord Ram went on for decades and expressed his gratitude to the judiciary of India for doing justice. “…In that period, the separation lasted only for 14 years…In this era, Ayodhya and the countrymen have endured hundreds of years of separation. Many of our generations have suffered this separation…,” said the PM. He said that he has firm belief and immense faith that the devotees of Lord Ram are completely absorbed in this historic moment today.

“…the devotees of Prabhu Ram, in every corner of the country and the world, are deeply feeling this…This moment is divine, this moment is the holiest of all…,” he said. The new Ram Lalla idol was consecrated at the newly-constructed temple in Ayodhya on Monday amid grand celebrations in the town, with PM Modi participating in the rituals. The prime minister walked inside the temple premises with a silver ‘chattar’ (umbrella) placed on a red folded dupatta. Dressed in a golden kurta teamed up with a cream dhoti and patka, he took sankalp’ for the pran pratishtha ceremony and later moved to the sanctum sanctorum for the rituals. RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat, Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath were also present inside the sanctorum during the rituals. Army helicopters showered flower petals on the temple premises when the consecration took place. “The extraordinary moment of the consecration of Shri Ram Lala’s life in Ayodhya Dham is going to leave everyone emotional. It is my great pleasure to be a part of this divine program. Hail Siya Ram!,” Modi said on X. Later in the day, he is also scheduled to visit the Kuber Tila.
