The Jammu and Kashmir Police, in a joint operation with Haryana Police, have busted a major inter-state terror module linked to Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and al-Qaeda-affiliated Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGuH), The Hindustan Times reported.
The crackdown, which followed the recovery of a massive cache of explosives in Haryana’s Faridabad, led to the arrest of seven people, including two doctors allegedly involved in the terror plot.
2,900 kg of explosive material seized
Officials said the operation resulted in the seizure of around 2,900 kilograms of IED-making material, along with arms and ammunition. The coordinated raids across Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana were carried out with the support of the Intelligence Bureau (IB).
“In a major counter-terrorism success, J&K Police has busted an inter-state and transnational terror module linked with proscribed organisations JeM and AGuH. The operation led to the arrest of key operatives and recovery of a massive cache of arms, ammunition and explosives,” a police spokesperson said.
Faridabad explosives haul
The breakthrough came days after Haryana Police recovered 350 kilograms of explosive material, including ammonium nitrate, from a rented house in Faridabad’s Dhauj village. The premises belonged to Dr Muzammil Shakil, a Kashmiri doctor teaching at Al Falah University. Initially suspected to be RDX, police later confirmed the substance as ammonium nitrate.
Faridabad Police Commissioner Satender Kumar Gupta said Dr Shakil, who had been on the radar for allegedly putting up posters supporting JeM in Srinagar, was arrested on October 30. Another doctor, Dr Adil Ahmad Rather, was also detained for his links to the same terror network.
‘Radicalised doctor’ module under scanner
The probe has since expanded, with a woman doctor emerging as a key suspect in the terror conspiracy. According to police sources, an assault rifle and other weapons were recently recovered from a vehicle registered in Haryana (HR55 CH STE) traced to the woman doctor.
The seizure included an AK Krinkov rifle with three magazines, a pistol with live rounds, two empty cartridges, and two additional magazines — indicating the cell’s access to sophisticated weaponry and its operational reach beyond Jammu and Kashmir.
Pakistan link suspected
Investigators believe the arrested individuals were part of a wider plan to transport explosives and weapons for potential terror strikes across northern India. The module, police suspect, was being coordinated from across the border by handlers associated with JeM and AGuH — marking one of the largest counter-terror breakthroughs in recent months.
