Indian Army officer shot dead by jawan in Kashmir's Uri: Junior was rebuked for using cellphone on duty

An army officer of Rashtriya Rifles was shot dead by a jawan on Tuesday following an altercation between the two in the Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir, according to media reports.

News18 reported that the officer was shot dead after he reprimanded the jawan for using a cellphone on duty.

Reuters[/caption] The officer, Major Shikhar Thapa, belonged to the 71 Armoured Regiment but was attached to 8 Rashtriya Rifles - the army’s elite counter-insurgency unit deployed in Uri close to the line of control, Hindustan Times  reported. A court of inquiry has been ordered, News18 reported. The army is expected to issue a statement later on Tuesday. In 2014, an army jawan killed five of his colleagues and later killed himself at an army camp in Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir.
