After Pahalgam, Operation Sindoor was a clear message against terror: 10 things Jaishankar said in LS

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in Lok Sabha.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar described India’s strategic, diplomatic, and military reaction to the Pahalgam terror assault during a Lok Sabha discussion on Operation Sindoor on Monday.

Here are 10 key points from his address:

1.“Terror and talks cannot go together”: Jaishankar reiterated India’s longstanding position that there can be no dialogue with terrorism.

“Blood and water cannot flow together,” he said, refering to the government’s firm response to the April 22 Pahalgam attack.

2. Suspension of bilateral mechanisms: Jaishankar confirmed that India had suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, revoked the SAARC visa exemption, and closed the Attari border as part of immediate countermeasures.

3. No call between PM Modi and US President Trump: Dismissing speculation, Jaishankar said there was no phone call between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump between April 22 and June 17.

4. JD Vance alert on planned attack: In his speech, Jaishankar also mentioned that US Vice President JD Vance had informed PM Modi of a planned large-scale Pakistan-based attack on May 9, which India pre-emptively thwarted.

5. Global support and condemnation of the attack: Jaishankar noted that major powers including the US, France, Germany, and groups like the Quad and BRICS condemned the Pahalgam attack and supported India’s right to self-defence.

6. TRF declared a global terrorist group: Jaishakar credited India’s diplomatic efforts for the successful designation of The Resistance Front (TRF), the group that claimed the Pahalgam attack, as a global terrorist organisation.

7. UNSC statement despite India not being a member: Jaishankar pointed out that although India is not currently on the UN Security Council, it still secured a strong UNSC statement on April 25 condemning the Pahalgam terror attack.

8. “Who imagined Bahawalpur and Muridke would go down like this?”: Jaishankar highlighted the precision of India’s strikes, referring to known terror hubs in Pakistan and challenging critics on the effectiveness of the operation.

9. International delegations received with honour: Jaishankar said that parliamentary delegations sent abroad, including members from across party lines, to explain Operation Sindoor were welcomed with honour and respect.

10. Strategic use of diplomacy and defence: Concluding his remarks, Jaishankar said the government’s approach combined measured military action and strong diplomacy, sending a decisive message without escalation.
