An IndiGo flight en route from Kolkata to Srinagar made an emergency landing at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi on Wednesday due to a fuel leak, said police.
Flight 6E-6961, carrying 166 passengers and crew members, landed safely, and all individuals on board were evacuated without injury.
“All 166 passengers and crew were safely evacuated. Airport authorities are investigating the incident. The situation is under control, and normal operations have resumed,” Varanasi Police said in a statement.
Further details regarding the cause of the leak are expected as the investigation progresses.
This incident comes days after a Srinagar-bound IndiGo flight was halted moments before takeoff due to a technical glitch reported at Jammu airport.
According to preliminary information, IndiGo flight 6E-6962, which was preparing for departure from Jammu to Srinagar, was stopped on the runway just seconds before takeoff following reports of a fuel leak over the engine.
Earlier today, an Air India flight from Mumbai to Newark made a precautionary return to Mumbai after the crew suspected a technical issue mid-flight. The aircraft landed safely, and necessary inspections are currently underway to assess its airworthiness.
As a result, flight AI191 and its return leg, AI144 from Newark to Mumbai, were cancelled.
Air India confirmed that all affected passengers in Mumbai have been provided with hotel accommodations and rebooked on alternate Air India or partner airline flights to their final destinations.
