After the African Union became a permanent member of the G20 on Saturday, President of Argentina, Alberto Fernández commended Indian presidency for the significant move. Alberto Fernández said, “I think the Indian presidency has taken a huge step forward by incorporating the African Union into the G20. I have proposed that based on that decision, the G20 should incorporate the community of Latin American and Caribbean States which undergo a situation very similar to that of the African Union.”

Further Fernandez talked about the robust trade partnership between India and Argentina. He acknowledged Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, which is highly regarded not only in India but also in Argentina. “On the Defence partnership between India and Argentina, President of Argentina, Alberto Fernandez to ANI says, “Well, the relationship between India and Argentina is very solid, very firm, and our trade relationship is growing every day. India has Modi, a leader that everyone recognizes and commends and that also is transmitted to Argentina. We have discussed with the Prime Minister of India, many initiatives, many things that we can do together. And one of those things has to do with defence. The Argentine Minister of Defence was recently in India, and he had conversations to learn about what was India’s offer and proposal regarding those weapons (BrahMos missile, Tejas). So we will see how that works out,“Fernández further added. Africa has finally arrived at world stage Prime Minister Narendra Modi Saturday formally announced the inclusion of the African Union (AU) as a permanent member of G20. The announcement came during the inaugural session of the G20 Leaders Summit that is being held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi’s Pragati Maidan. The African Union, a continental body of 55 member states, now has the same status as the European Union – the only regional bloc with a full membership. Its previous designation was “invited international organisation”.
