Jammu: The Army on Tuesday bid farewell to its braveheart soldier Naik Mudassar Ahmed, hailing from Kashmir’s militancy-hit Pulwama, in a solemn ceremony in Jammu. He was injured on Monday when mortar shells fired by the Pakistani Army landed on his bunker along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district. He later succumbed to his injuries. “The Indian Army on Tuesday paid last tributes to Naik Mudassar Ahmed who was martyred on the LoC in BG sector while responding valiantly to unprovoked firing by Pakistan,” a defence spokesman said. The mortal remains were then sent to his native village for last rites. Ahmed was a native of Duchoo village in Tral Tehsil and is survived by his wife and two children. “Ahmed was a brave and sincere soldier. He loved his job to the core,” the spokesman said, adding that the nation will always remain indebted to him for the supreme sacrifice and devotion to duty. Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh and Speaker Kavinder Gupta paid floral tributes to the soldier by laying wreaths. They praised the bravery and valour of the Army personnel guarding the borders against the aggression of the enemy. Top civil, Army and police officers were present there, including DIG Jammu Ashkoor Wani, Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Kumar Rajeev Ranjan.
