India on Wednesday successfully test-fired its Intermediate Range Ballistic Missile ‘Agni-5’ from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur in Odisha.
The Ministry of Defence in a statement said “Conducted under the aegis of the Strategic Forces Command, the launch validated all operational and technical parameters of the missile, marking a significant boost to the country’s strategic deterrence capabilities”.
“Intermediate range ballistic missile ‘Agni 5’ was successfully test-fired from the integrated test range, Chandipur in Odisha on August 20,” it said in a brief statement.
“The launch validated all operational and technical parameters. It was carried out under the aegis of the Strategic Forces Command,” it said.
India’s Agni missile arsenal currently includes the Agni-1, with a strike range of 700 km, the Agni-2, capable of reaching up to 2,000 km, and the Agni-3 and Agni-4, which cover ranges from 2,500 km to beyond 3,500 km. The more advanced Agni-5 underwent its maiden test flight on April 19, 2012.
