India records 67,735 new COVID-19 cases and 680 deaths in past 24 hrs, says health ministry

New Delhi: The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in India climbed to 73.07 lakh on Thursday after 67,735 fresh infections were registered in the past 24 hours, said the Union Health Ministry.
The national COVID-19 recovery rate stood at 87.35 percent as of Thursday with 63,83,441 patients being cured of the viral infection.
India's COVID-19 caseload mounted to 73,07,097 and the toll climbed to 1,11,266 after the death of 680 more people in a span of 24 hours, according to the data updated at 8 am.
The COVID-19 case fatality rate has further declined to 1.52 percent.
There are 8,12,390 active cases of coronavirus in the country which comprises 11.11 percent of the total caseload, the data stated.
According to the ICMR, a cumulative total of 9,12,26,305 samples have been tested up to 14 October. At least 11,36,183 samples were tested on Wednesday alone.
"The Premier League can confirm today that 81 percent of players have received at least one COVID-19 vaccination dose, with 68 percent now fully vaccinated," the league said in a statement.
"I guess you don't own your body. That's what it comes down to. If you want to work in society today, then I guess they made the rules of what goes in your body and what you do. The only options were to get vaccinated or not play in the NBA. It was a tough decision," Wiggins said.
