India is likely to host a grand summit on artificial intelligence, which will be attended by leaders like French President Emmanuel Macron and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, along with representation from around 100 countries.

According to a report by News18, the AI Summit will be held in February next year and will be the second biggest gathering of world leaders in India after the G20 Summit. The seeds of the grand summit were sown by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the AI Action Summit in France earlier this year.

What has been planned so far?

India has invited nearly 120 countries to the AI Impact Summit, while representatives from some other nations are also expected to join.

The summit will be held from February 19 to 20. The representations are expected to be made by heads of government, ministerial and official levels. India is targeting to invite around 35 heads of state and is expecting 20 heads of state to attend the summit.

An announcement about the summit was made by Union Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in the parliament in July this year. He said that the themes and topics of the AI Impact Summit will align with PM Modi’s vision of using technology to serve all sections of society.

The summit will be held in New Delhi’s Bharat Mandapam in February.

“Building on the momentum of leading international forums such as the UK AI Safety Summit, the AI Seoul Summit, the France AI Action Summit, and the Global AI Summit on Africa, this high-level convening marks a critical inflection point. It will strengthen existing multilateral initiatives while advancing new priorities, deliverables, and cooperative frameworks—moving from high-level political statements to demonstrable impact and tangible progress in global AI cooperation,” the official website of the AI Impact Summit said.
