India-Pakistan Ceasefire Highlights: ‘Let’s trade goods, not nuclear missiles’: Trump takes credit for India-Pakistan ceasefire, says trade was key leverage

In his first address to the nation after Operation Sindoor, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday sternly warned Pakistan that India will not succumb to nuclear blackmail and sent a clear message to the world: terror and trade, terror and talks cannot go together. "Operation Sindoor is India's new policy against terrorism and our unwavering pledge for justice. It is the new normal. We have only kept in abeyance our operations against Pakistan and the future will depend on their behaviour," Modi said in a 22-minute address. He also had an advice to Pakistan’s rulers: "The terrorists they have been feeding and nurturing all these years will swallow Pakistan itself. If Pakistan wants to survive, it will have to root out terrorism." India will not differentiate between the government sponsoring terrorism and terrorists, Modi said, warning of decisive action in case of any misadventure.

India-PAkistan Ceasefire LIVE: Congress demands special PM package for rehabilitation of shelling-hit people in J-K

The Jammu and Kashmir Congress condemned the Pakistan Army on Tuesday for targeting civilians during recent clashes and demanded a special package from the Prime Minister for the proper rehabilitation of the affected population.

Tariq Hameed Karra, president of the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC), made this demand following an extensive tour of various affected areas in Poonch district.

In the indiscriminate shelling by the Pakistan Army, 20 people lost their lives and over 50 others were injured, making Poonch district the worst-hit area.

Accompanied by senior party leaders, including working president Raman Bhalla, Karra visited Baila village in the Mandi area to offer condolences to the family of Islamic scholar Mohammed Iqbal, who was regrettably labeled a terrorist by some segments of the national media.

Karra stated, “This is highly condemnable and warrants appropriate legal action. Such labeling has deeply hurt the grieving family and all right-minded individuals in society, damaging his reputation.” He expressed solidarity with the family of the deceased.

The Congress team also visited the homes of several other civilians who lost their lives due to the Pakistani shelling, as well as prominent sites like the Shri Budda Amarnath temple and Dera Nangaali Sahib, where they offered prayers for peace, harmony, and brotherhood.

Additionally, they visited the Bagyala Masjid Zia ul-Aloom, Poonch city, Gita Bhawan, and Gurudwara Singh Sabha Mohalla, all of which suffered damage. The team also went to the hospital to check on the injured.

A party spokesperson noted that the affected people demanded compensation for the loss of lives, property, crops, and livestock without delay.

Speaking to reporters, Karra condemned Pakistan for its attacks on civilians, stating that Poonch district is the worst affected area in the country. He expressed regret that Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not mention Poonch in his speech on Monday evening.

Karra urged the Prime Minister to convene an all-party meeting and a special session of Parliament to discuss the situation, including the recent Pahalgam carnage and the ceasefire arranged by a third country. “The nation has a right to know the various aspects of the past 20 days and the terms of the ceasefire,” he added, reiterating the demand for a special Prime Minister’s package for the shelling-affected people of Jammu and Kashmir.

He also emphasised the need for more community and individual bunkers equipped with necessary facilities throughout the district. Furthermore, he called for immediate relief and rehabilitation, as well as martyr status for all those who lost their lives in the Pakistani shelling.

The Congress team later visited Mankote and Mendhar to show solidarity with the people and to offer condolences to the families of those killed in the attacks.

India-Pakistan Ceasefire LIVE News: 'World understands the epicentre of terrorism is across the border in Pak,"

When asked about the hyphenation of India and Pakistan on the global stage due to the recent tensions, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “On the contrary, there is widespread understanding in the world that Indian tourists were the victims of terrorism at Pahalgam and that the epicentre of terrorism is across the border in Pakistan. A number of foreign leaders in their conversations with Indian counterparts recognized India’s right to defend itself and protect its people. I also draw your attention to the UN Security Council press statement of 25 April which states that “the need to hold perpetrators, organizers, financiers and sponsors of this reprehensible act of terrorism accountable and bring them to justice. They stressed that those responsible for these killings should be held accountable.”

India-Pakistan Ceasefire LIVE News: On claims by Pakistani Foreign Minister to CNN, MEA spokesperson says...

“In the last week, as a result of Op Sindoor, Pakistan has seen its terrorism centres in Bahawalpur, Muridke, Muzaffarabad and other places destroyed. Thereafter, its military capabilities were significantly degraded by us and key airbases effectively put out of action. If the Pakistani FM wishes to project these as achievements, he is welcome to do so.

Where India is concerned, our stand was clear and consistent from the start. We would target terrorist infrastructure operating out of Pakistan. If the Pakistani military stayed out, there would be no problem. If they fired on us, we would respond suitably. Till the night of 9th May, Pakistan was threatening India with a massive assault. Once their attempt failed on 10th May morning and received a devastating Indian counter-response, their tune changed and their DGMO eventually reached out to us. In essence, India’s position remained the same; Pakistan’s position changed on 10th May morning after its airbases were effectively put out of action. All you have to do is look at who called who to negotiate the terms of the cessation of firing.

By the way you all know that satellite pictures are available commercially. I urge you to look at the sites which Pakistan claims to have attacked. Contrast it with the places which we successfully targeted and destroyed. That will give you a clear picture,” MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said.

"Military action from our side was completely in the conventional domain": MEA says on speculation on nuclear war by Trump

The military action was entirely in the conventional domain. There were some reports that Pakistan’s National Command Authority will meet on 10 May. But this was later denied by them. Pakistan FM has himself denied the nuclear angle on record.

As you know, India has a firm stance that it will not give in to nuclear blackmail or allow cross-border terrorism to be conducted invoking it. In conversations with various countries, we also cautioned that their subscribing to such scenarios could hurt them in their own region.

India-Pakistan Ceasefire LIVE: MEA slams Pak MFA's statement post PM Modi's speech

We have seen the statement made by the Pakistani side. That a nation which has nurtured terrorism on an industrial scale should think that it can escape the consequences is fooling itself. Three terrorists belonging to the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) were killed in an encounter with security forces in the Shukroo forest area of Keller, in South Kashmir’s Shopian district, officials said on Tuesday.

A top police officer confirmed that a joint team of the police and army launched a cordon and search operation based on specific intelligence about terrorist presence in the area.

As the forces began combing the forest, the terrorists opened fire, prompting retaliation. All three militants were killed in the ensuing gunfight. Their identities are being verified.

India-Pakistan Ceasefire LIVE Updates: On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that Operation Sindoor had established a new standard in India’s war against terrorism and “set up a new parameter and new normal”.

In his address to the nation, PM Modi also mentioned India’s surgical strike on terror launch pads along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir in 2016 and air strikes on a terror camp in Pakistan in 2019, claiming that Operation Sindoor is India’s anti-terrorism policy after the two operations.

In reaction to the Pahalgam terror incident, where 26 people were killed, India launched precise attacks against militant infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

PM Modi said Indian Air Force, Army Navy, Border Security Force and India’s paramilitary forces are constantly on alert.

“After the surgical strike and air strike, now Operation Sindoor is India’s policy against terrorism. Operation Sindoor has carved out a new benchmark in our fight against terrorism and has set up a new parameter and new normal ,” he stated.

“First, If there is a terrorist attack on India, a fitting reply will be given. We will give a befitting response on our terms only. We will take strict action at every place from where the roots of terrorism emerge. Secondly, India will not tolerate any nuclear blackmail. India will strike precisely and decisively at the terrorist hideouts developing under the cover of nuclear blackmail ,” he said.

PM Modi stated that India will not distinguish between the government that sponsors terrorism and the masterminds of terrorism.

He also said that India’s precise strikes have eliminated more than 100 deadly terrorists.

“Many terrorist leaders were roaming freely in Pakistan for the last two and a half to three decades who used to conspire against India. India killed them in one stroke ,” he stated.

India also retaliated appropriately to Pakistan’s military assault, bombing multiple Pakistani airbases.
