In talks with Govt on law to regulate online media: Gadkari

Mumbai: The Centre was planning to draft a legislation to regulate online media and it was already in consultation with the opposition, BJP president Nitin Gadkari said here today. [caption id=“attachment_297763” align=“alignleft” width=“380” caption=““The government is planning to impose restrictions on online media and has sought our views on how to go about it.” Reuters”] ![](https://images.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/gadkari-reuters1.jpg "gadkari-reuters") [/caption] “The government is planning to impose restrictions on online media and has sought our views on how to go about it. Serious discussions are going on. We want freedom of speech to exist, but we also don’t want anybody’s life to get spoilt,” the BJP president said. However, Gadkari refused to elaborate, saying “it is still in the discussion stage”. He was talking to the media after a CEOs’ interactive session on digital economy policy, organised by the Nasscom, Ficci, American Chamber of Commerce, Centre for Digital Economy Policy Research (C-DEP) and the Centre for Knowledge Sovereignty. Gadkari urged the IT industry CEOs to draft a paper with proposals that can be implemented by the BJP-run states. “All BJP chief ministers will meet you and you can give them your suggestions. I have a strong political will to implement your proposals,” he told the CEOs. Gadkari assured the industry that BJP would curb corruption using electronic governance. “As far as policies are concerned, you suggest what should be the right policy for our state governments. We intend to go for e-governance,” he said. PTI
