In high spirits: Telangana govt to allow micro-breweries in restaurants, pubs

Beer lovers in Telangana have reason to cheer. The state government has decided to allow the setting up of micro-breweries in restaurants and pubs from the beginning of October, according to a  Deccan Herald reports. [caption id=“attachment_2416370” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] ![AFP image](https://images.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/BeerdrinkingAFP.jpg) AFP image[/caption] According to the report, Telangana’s excise department took the decision after studying the process of draught manufacturing technology in Bengaluru, Mumbai and Delhi. If things go as per plan, micro-breweries to set up will have the capacity to produce 1,000 litres of draught beer in a day. A report in the New Indian Express states that Telangana ranks among the highest of the beer producing states in the country, with 6,500 lakh cases of beer sold every year. The report points out that with micro-breweries, consumers can choose between several varieties of beer, including wheat beer and dark beer. According to this New Indian Express report, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh together account for 31 percent of the total beer consumption in the country. Andhra Pradesh, too, came up with a new liquor policy recently, in which the state government could take control of 10 percent of the shops in each district, which led to the government operating about 400 outlets. In barely a month, the state earned a revenue of Rs 801 crores, much more than its target of Rs 384 crores, reported The Times of India.
