In a big country such things happen: SP leader's brazen justification on UP rape

After the second horrific incident where a student was gangraped and then murdered, Samajwadi Party leader Naresh Agarwal explained it away saying that in a vast country, such things would take place. “In such a vast country, such things will happen. But what should be seen is how the Government will react to it,” Naresh Agarwal, a Samajwadi Party MP, said. “You are talking about isolated incidents. Pick up a paper and read, such incidents take place across every state in the country,” he added. Image courtesy:Ibnlive[/caption] Referring to the incident of rape in Pratapgarh, where a rape victim was reportedly assaulted by the family of the accused, he said that one person had been arrested. The victim’s tongue had been cut, allegedly by a relative of one of the accused, ahead of her deposition before the court. The victim had refused to give in to demands by the accused persons families not to depose in the case. In the incident of rape in Etawah where a student was reportedly gang-raped and then burnt alive by the rapists, Agarwal said that accused should severely punished. Etawah, incidentally is the home town of Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav.
