Dehradun: Seeking to promote collaborative research in the areas of aviation and railway engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee (IIT-R) has inked an agreement with the University of Southampton based in UK. An Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in this regard by IIT Roorkee Director, Professor Pradipta Banerji, and the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Southampton, Professor Don Nutbeam, during a workshop at Southampton recently, said a release from IIT Roorkee. The workshop this week in Southampton has already enabled us to identify areas where there is real potential for thematic scientific collaboration and we are very excited to be holding the next workshop at our Roorkee campus in July,” said Banerji. The organizations also had other initiative on the cards including: staff visits and exchanges and other proposals, which would be of interest to both UK and Indian organizations, said Banerji. Professor Mark Spearing, the Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Southampton who was present at the signing of the MoU said, “There are tremendous synergies between our institutions and excellent opportunities to build on these, via a number of initiatives developed by the UK and Indian Governments to promote collaborative research.” Both the institutions are focusing on developing technological solutions for Indian aviation and the railway industry.
