Prime Minister Narendra Modi broke his record with his 12th Independence Day speech as his Friday speech became his longest address to the nation. The speech delivered from the Red Fort on Friday reached the 100-minute mark.
PM Modi broke his own record of delivering the longest Independence Day speech by an Indian Prime Minister. Last year, his address lasted for 98 minutes. It is pertinent to note that Modi’s Independence Day speeches average at 82 minutes — longer than any other prime minister in India’s history.
The speech from the ramparts of the Red Fort clocked at an impressive 103 minutes. The Prime Minister covered a wide range of topics in his address. This included offering a comprehensive overview of the government’s achievements and outlining a roadmap for the future, anchored in the vision of a Naya Bharat and a Viksit Bharat by 2047.
During his address, he also shared his ‘Made In India’ wishlist, urging the Indian youth and scientists to develop Indian fighter jets and semiconductor chips.
PM Modi’s address averages at 82 minutes
While the prime minister’s last year’s address was his second-longest. He delivered his third-longest I-day speech in 2016, which lasted for 96 minutes.
Meanwhile, his shortest address to the nation from the Red Fort came in 2017, when he spoke for around 56 minutes. The first Independence Day speech was delivered by the prime minister in the year 2014, which lasted for 65 minutes.
His speech in 2015 lasted for about 88 minutes. In 2018, Modi addressed from the ramparts of the Red Fort for 83 minutes. Subsequently, in 2019, he spoke for nearly 92 minutes, which was his second-longest to date. In 2020 Modi’s I-day address lasted for 90 minutes. In 2021 it lasted 88 minutes and in 2022 he spoke for about 74 minutes.
