Sarabjit Singh may have got a state funeral but there are several spies who are still languishing in Pakistan jails and worse still, there are spies who have returned to India but with little acknowledgement of their heroic deeds.
CNN-IBN travelled to several villages of Punjab
that is one of the states on the border of India and Pakistan. Many individuals from these villages, who have travelled to Pakistan to collect strategic information, have remained incognito to safeguard the Defence Ministry’s interests. But when caught by Pakistani authorities, the government has done precious little to get them released. [caption id=“attachment_778121” align=“alignleft” width=“380”]
Ashok Kumar - who used to work for the Indian government. IBNLive.[/caption] One such person had been Surjit Singh from Ferozpur in Punjab. He was a BSF sub- inspector smuggling files on Pak troop movements and had crossed the border on official duty before his luck ran out. He was released from the jail 30 years later. According to him, the government has nothing to ease his condition. No one remembers him in his village and he said that he could have met the same fate as Sarabit Singh. Another such spy who worked for Indian government is Ashok Kumar from Gurdaspur area in Punjab. He said that he was tortured by the Pakistani prison authorities so badly that it has left him physically weak for his entire life. And yet again the government has left him to languish amid his own misery. For the entire video story on IBNLive, click
