Heavy rainfall to lash parts of Odisha in next 24 hours

Bhubaneswar: Heavy to very heavy rainfall coupled with gusty surface wind is likely to lash parts of Odisha due to a fresh low pressure formed over the Bay of Bengal on Wednesday, even as incessant rains disrupted normal life in several areas. [caption id=“attachment_2924602” align=“alignleft” width=“380”]Representational image. PTI Representational image. PTI[/caption] While Tuesday’s low pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal now lies over north Chattisgarh and its neighbourhood, a fresh low pressure area has formed over northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast, the meteorological centre here said. Under its impact, rain or thundershower is likely to occur in most places of Odisha during the next 24 hours. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over interior Odisha and heavy rainfall at one or two places over coastal districts of Odisha during the next 24 hours, it said. Gusty surface wind from northwesterly direction with speed reaching 30 kmph to 40 kmph and gusting up to 50 kmph may prevail along and off Odisha coast. Sea condition would be slight to moderate in Odisha coast. Height of seawave may increase up to 3 mt to 4 mt along Odisha coast, the MeT office said and advised fishermen to be cautious while venturing into sea. Meanwhile, heavy rainfall during the last two days disrupted normal life in several parts of the state leaving many roads and streets in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Puri and other places submerged.
