It is a fact unequivocally acknowledged that when a woman in India goes to a ‘theka’ or a liquor shop to buy booze, she is stared at, often intimidated and at times even harassed by her male counterparts. [caption id=“attachment_2565974” align=“alignleft” width=“380”]

Twitter @Ahsanzameer2[/caption] But in what might turn into a game changing initiative, Star City Mall in East Delhi, the one next to DLF The Galleria, has come up with a simple yet ingenious plan: a liquor shop, exclusively for women. With glass walls, fancy interiors and comfortable-looking sofa, the place flaunts a large pink strip on the outside that reads “Exclusive section only for ladies”, reports The Indian Express
. The store also boasts female security guards and a woman sales executive to fetch whiskey, beer, and vodka for the customers, reports India Today
. But despite being marketed as ‘women-only’, couples make up the bulk of its customer base. Store manager believes that is due to the novelty of the concept, reports The Indian Express. We can only hope this ’novel’ concept gains ground in the coming year and provides a safe and affordable service to women.
