Guwahati molestation: Prime accused gets bail

Guwahati: The Gauhati High Court Thursday granted bail to Amarjyoti Kalita, the main accused in the GS Road molestation case here. The court directed Kalita to furnish two sureties of Rs 10,000 each to the satisfaction of chief judicial magistrate, Kamrup, whose court will hear the case on a fast track basis from next week. Kalita, who had been absconding since the July 9 incident, and surrendered to police in Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi city July 23, was granted bail in the two cases - one on the basis of the FIR lodged by the mother of the victimised girl, and the second lodged by police for obstructing them in their lawful discharge of duty. Road Molestation Case has been submitted and the trial will commence on day-to-day basis from Sep 18 in the court of CJM (Kamrup). As many as 39 witnesses have been cited by police to establish the charges of molestation against the said accused,” he said. The court had Wednesday granted bail 13 others accused in the case - Nabajyoti Baruah, Jitumoni Deka, Nabajit Deka, Dipak Deb, Puspendra Das, Dhanraj Basfor, Rubul Ali, Hafizuddin, Sikandar Basfor, Diganta Basumatary, Debo Das, Rupkanta Kalita and Ghanashyam Malik. A local television channel journalist Gaurab Jyoti Neog, who was also one of the accused in the case, was granted bail by the high court Aug 13. IANS
