Gurgaon police sends detailed report to MEA on Saudi diplomat accused of rape

Gurgaon: Gurgaon Police on Wednesday night sent a “detailed” report to the External Affairs Ministry on the alleged confinement and rape of two Nepalese women by a Saudi Arabian diplomat at his flat in Gurgaon. Reuters[/caption] The report was e-mailed to the ministry, hours after a second medical medical examination of the two women, who were rescued from the diplomat’s apartment on Monday night, confirmed rape and sodomy, said Rajesh Chechi, ACP (Crime) of Gurgaon Police. He said the “detailed report” contained “elaborate description” of the sequence of events including the rescue of the two women and registration of an FIR in the case. The External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson confirmed receiving the report. It is understood that the Ministry will initiate follow up action on Thursday based on the report. Chechi said police was yet to ascertain how many persons had allegedly sexually assaulted the two women. “We are currently extracting the CCTV recordings from the apartment premises and the process is expected to take around 12 hours. Once the recordings are monitored, we shall be able to ascertain more details. “Those details shall also be mailed to the ministry, if they ask for it,” said Chechi, adding the report was sent to the MEA around 7.45 pm on Wednesday. In the report, the police maintained that it was unaware that the apartment belonged to a diplomat. The two women were rescued from the diplomat’s residence in Gurgaon on Monday night. Gurgaon Police Commissioner Navdeep Singh Virk, heading a special investigation team in the case, said the probe into the allegations would be undertaken in accordance with the Vienna convention as the official enjoys diplomatic immunity.
