Gurgaon BMW crash: Bizman's son says he's harassed and disturbed

Gurgaon, Haryana: Towering men whisked Suraj Sherawat out of Gurgaon’s District Magistrate Court into a white Ritz car after the proceedings in the BMW case earlier this afternoon, taking him away just as he came to the court – untouched by the law. Wearing a blue and white striped shirt, Suraj Sherawat, the prime accused and the alleged driver of the BMW car that that rammed into a Tata Indigo at IFFCO Chowk on 5 May – killing two persons and an unborn child – didn’t betray even a tinge of remorse as he ran into the awaiting car and sped away. While before the court seeking bail, Suraj told the judge that the police was just harassing him and that he was “mentally disturbed and traumatised”. But, he was in fact active on Facebook till past 6.30 pm on Monday. However, he deleted his account at around 7 p.m., probably anticipating being tracked down. The police on Monday had filed an application with the court seeking a non-bailable arrest warrant against the student who has been labelled the prime suspect in the case, Maheshwar Dayal, DCP Gurgaon east, told Firstpost. Police Commissioner KK Sindhu told Firstpost that the police have opposed the his bail plea and has in it’s application against Suraj sought that it be granted a warrant of arrest, permission to take his blood sample that can be made scientific evidence and the approval for an identification parade with him. He had also said that following the application, if Suraj was still absconding, the police would also declare him an offender. “Suraj did not appear for his exam on Monday. If he does not turn up, we will declare him a proclaimed offender,” the Police Commissioner had told Hindustan Times yesterday. Following the application in court and the notice to the family, Suraj , the son of the BMW owner and real estate dealer Devender Sherawat, surrendered in a court today and was almost immediately granted bail by Chief Judicial Magistrate Jasbir Singh. Suraj’s bail comes only a day after the Gurgaon court dismissed the claims of one Rajesh, who had last week surrendered before the court saying that he was the driver of the car at the time of the incident According to police investigations, Suraj and his friend Daksh Jaiswal were in the car at the time of the accident that killed a pregnant Kshama Chopra Shetye and the driver of the Indigo. Suraj was believed to be behind the wheel of the BMW at the time, according to Dayal. The police’s application however is pending in court, hearing for which will take place tomorrow. Suraj has been charged under sections of the IPC which include section 279 (rash and negligent driving); section 304 A (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), section 336 (endangering the life and personal safety of others) and section 337 (causing hurt by act endangering the life and personal safety of others).
