Gurdaspur attack: CCTV footage shows terrorists in army fatigues with rifles

Gurdaspur: The three terrorists who created mayhem in Gurdaspur on Monday before being eliminated were caught on a CCTV camera whose footage surfaced on Tuesday in a significant development in the attack case.

The 14-second video footage shows three men, wearing Army fatigues, having big backpacks and carrying AK assault rifles, walking down the road at 4:55 am on Monday.

The images were captured by a CCTV camera placed at a shop at Taragarh intersection in Dinanagar area, just before they entered this Punjab town bordering Pakistan, SSP Gurdaspur GS Toor said on Tuesday.

During investigations, it emerged that the terrorists unsuccessfully tried to snatch a mini truck (tempo) from its driver and then opened fire on a moving bus, Toor said.

A man heading to buy vegetables in his Maruti car became their target. The car owner Kamaljit Singh said they pulled him out of his vehicle and threw him on the road.

Earlier on Tuesday morning, Punjab police defused two grenades seized near the operation site at Dinanagar police station complex.

Seven people, including an SP, were among killed in Monday’s terror strike that lasted around 12 hours.

Meanwhile, a top police official said two Global Positioning System devices were recovered from the location where terrorists were gunned down.

One of the GPS devices shows that location of police station Dinanagar was programmed in the system, he said.

Further analysis suggests that the entry point of the terrorists into India was Bamiyal on the border, the official said.

All the three militants were killed in the 12-hour-long gun battle with the police and elite commandos of the Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT).

Chinese-made weapons and GPS had been recovered from them, Punjab police DGP, Sumedh Singh Saini had earlier said.
