Govt wants speedy disposal of Kamduni gangrape case: Mamata Banerjee

Barasat: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today said her government has demanded speedy disposal of the case of gang rape and subsequent death of a 20-year-old girl in Kamduni village in the city. “You know I had visited their (victim’s family) house. We are totally humane. I have done whatever was necessary through CID (probe). We want speedy disposal of the case,” Banerjee told reporters before attending a state government programme to inaugurate different development projects here. [/caption] The 20-year-old girl was abducted and brutally raped while she was returning home to Kamduni village under Barasat police station area in North 24-Parganas district, 20 km from Kolkata, after appearing for a university examination. She died of her injuries later. Residents of Kamduni village, who had come to the court for the hearing, later blocked the busy Council House Street nearby and fought with policemen expressing reservation over the investigation by the CID. They shouted slogans demanding that the probe be conducted afresh by CBI. Deputy commissioner (central) D P Singh said that some people blocked the Section 144-bound busy road and the police removed them. Eleven persons were arrested in this connection. He said Kamduni villagers were instigated by some people in the metropolis. To a question, Singh said that there was no lathicharge by the police. PTI
