Gorakhdham mishap: PM announces relief of Rs 2 lakh for kin of deceased

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a relief of Rs two lakh each to the kin of those killed and Rs 50,000 for those seriously injured in the Gorakhdham Express mishap.

This is Modi’s first decision after taking over as PM. He directed the Railway Ministry to ensure that relief operations were carried out smoothly and that all those injured in the train accident which occurred on Monday in Uttar Pradesh were provided the best possible medical care.

The Prime Minster sanctioned an ex-gratia payment of Rs two lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund and Rs 50,000 each for those seriously injured in the accident, a PMO statement said.

The Gorakhpur-bound Gorakhdham Express rammed into a freight train between Basti and Gorakhpur on Monday. The death toll is at 30 and is expected to rise further.
