Good governance can reduce pendency of law suits: Modi

Gandhinagar: Good governance can reduce the pendency of the litigations and provide quality justice to the people, BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi said in Gandhinagar today. Speaking at a function organised as a part of Bar Council of India’s Golden Jubilee celebrations, Modi said, “If we focus on a policy-driven governance, if there is good governance, pendency of cases will be reduced.”[caption id=“attachment_1414529” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] ![Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi. Quoting Mahatma Gandhi, he said the justice should reached “unto the last man of the society”. He also said that medium of TV could be used to spread legal awareness. “Why shouldn’t we make a programme on legal issues which can be broadcast at least once in a week. If Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha channels can be run, why not a channel on judiciary,” he said. “I have never seen a court room, because I have not faced any legal case, not even a case for wrong parking. I have very limited knowledge of this field and it is good, in a way,” Modi said. Earlier, Bar Council of India chairman Manan Kumar Mishra lavished praise on the Gujarat chief minister. “In 2013, we had invited (Prime Minister) Manmohan Singh, but after seeing the wave of 2014, we have decided to address the issues over here. It was essentially needed that our national leader should know about the plight of legal fraternity,” Mishra said. “Lawyers do not have basic facilities, they do not have libraries, and many of them do not have a house to live in. Legal fraternity is completely insecure and we need protection from the government,” the Bar Council of India chief said. Mishra, who joined BJP on January 25 this year, went on to say that “Mahatma Gandhi’s soul has reincarnated as Narendra Modi. Once again iron-man Sardar Patel is born here in Gujarat”. The event was attended by Supreme Court judges J Chelameswar, AR Dave, SJ Mukhopadhya, A K Sikari, Chief Justice of Bombay High Court Mohit Shah and Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court Bhaskar Bhattacharya.
