Mumbai takes the crown as the happiest city in Asia beating Beijing and Seoul. Around 94 per cent of the residents say Mumbai is the city which makes them happy.

From having the best vada pav to the highest rents in India, Mumbai has it all. Whether it is the nightlife, quality of food or heaviest traffic, the city of dreams figures it out in the happiest way. And if the survey is to be believed, then yes Mumbai is the happiest city in the country and the whole of Asia according to Time Out’s City Life Index 2025.  

Mumbai tops the happiness chart

Around 94 per cent of the residents say Mumbai is the city which makes them happy. It seems that the city’s opportunities, cultural vibrancy, and weather continue to inspire the citizens of all age groups.    

Happiness can be a personal pleasure and may be subjective, still stats specify the pattern and can reveal the insights.

89 per cent of people feel happier in Mumbai than any other city. 88 per cent say the city seems positive and safe. Many believe that their happiness has increased significantly after settling in Mumbai.  

What makes Mumbai so loving?

According to the reports, Mumbai’s top ranking in Asia is because of the vibrant entertainment scenes, bustling social life, employment opportunities, and having the tastiest street food.  

Are these things enough for a country to top the happiness index?

According to Mumbaikars, their city makes them feel positive. This is enough for residents to reside in any city. The people should feel safe.

Beijing and Shanghai fall just below Mumbai with about 93 and 92 per cent respectively. While China’s residents have always reported happiness as the country scores high on safety, pop-culture, cost and Gen-Z’s dynamics.

Countries like Seoul, Tokyo, Singapore rank lower. Longer working hours and fast-paced lifestyle takes a stop highlighting their global competitiveness and balance of urban stress. Mumbi also stands at number five worldwide beating Shanghai and Melbourne.

Engagement of different sects of people free from communal differences, daily experiences, belongingness which is not just big buildings and good infrastructure, it is the satisfaction among people.
