Anuradha Bali, a former Assistant Advocate General who converted to Islam to marry the deputy chief minister of Haryana in 2009,was found dead at her residence in Mohali today, police said, adding that she is suspected to have committed suicide.
Bali, who converted to Islam and changed her name to Fiza Mohammed, was found dead at her residence in Mohali by an uncle, Times Now reported.
Her body was found in a decomposed state and presently it was suspected to be a case of suicide, police officials had reportedly said.
Fiza had married the then deputy chief minister of Haryana Chander Mohan in December 2008, after the minister left his family and also converted to Islam in order to marry her.
Mohan, the son of former Haryana chief minister Bhajan Lal, had changed his name to Chand Mohammed after conversion.
However, shortly after a controversy erupted over him leaving his wife and children to be with Fiza, Mohan returned to his family and said he had nothing to do with her.
While she claimed that he had been abducted, Mohan said that he had gone of his own free will.He also later claimed that he had divorced Fiza through SMS.
Fiza, who had reportedly attempted suicide once earlier in 2009 after Mohan left her, had since been living alone at her residence in Mohali and largely led a troubled life. She had been arrested for breach of peace and on one occasion was assaulted by her neighbours .
Her attempts at political forays and in the entertainment industry were also unsuccesful. Mohan, who was removed from the post of deputy chief minister after the controversy broke, has also been in political wilderness.
