Five including three teenagers drown while immersing Krishna idol in Yamuna

New Delhi: Five men including three teenagers among a group of devotees from Noida drowned to death in the Yamuna while trying to immerse a lord Krishna idol on Sunday. As per the cops, the deceased were identified as Ankit, 20, Lucky, 16, Lalit, 17, Beeru, 19, and Ritu Raj, 20, all residents of rented accommodations in Salarpur village of Greater Noida. As per cops they received information at around 1:30 PM, soon after which two fire tenders were dispatched immediately along with a Police response vehicle. They reached the spot and fished out the dead bodies from the deep waters. The police said that around 17 to 18 people from Salarpur had come to the Yamuna bank under the Delhi-Noida-Direct flyover near Mathura Road to immerse the Krishna idol. As the idol got stuck, six of them went inside the Yamuna to immerse it properly. They added only one of them managed to escape the heavy flow of the Yamuna. They also noted they might have gotten stuck in the mud of the Yamuna. The bodies of the victims were recovered with the help of the DM East Boat Club and DFS staff. Harish Chander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Noida) told Firstpost that the deceased were living in Greater Noida village on rented accommodation. “After receiving the information from Delhi police a team was sent to locate their houses, it turned out they were living alone while their families lived in separate districts in Uttar Pradesh,” he said adding the families were informed on phone.
