Firstpost Defence Summit: Indian Army remains aligned with vision of making India self-reliant, says COAS General Pande

The Indian army remains completely aligned with the vision of making India a self-reliant nation, the Chief of Army Staff General Manoj Pande said on Saturday while speaking at Firstpost Defence Summit, adding that the technology is imperative for the nation’s security.

Terming the year 2024 as the year of technology absorption, General Pande said that there is a lot to do on this front to become self-reliant in defence. “Several initiatives have been taken to handhold the industry towards building trust. Technology is producing cutting-edge military hardware with modern technology. Currently, we have around 350 industries working towards fructification of contracts by 2025," he said.

General Pande said that the aim is to produce all that is necessary equipment for India’s defence forces indigenously amid ongoing global conflicts.

“In a technical institute, including 5G test labs, AI, and Quantum, Laboratories in collaboration with institutes such as the IIT Madras in the space domain. We are exploiting indigenous space assets with the Army being one of the largest users of satellite communication-based networks,” he said

With the new FDI policy in the space sector where liberalised thresholds have been defined for various sub-sectors and activities, it will greatly enhance the participation of private industry in investing in the development and production of satellite launch vehicles, he added.
