Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today asserted that “stern steps” were being taken to stem the violence in Korakjhar and other areas of lower Assam. Strongly refuting the statement made by opposition party All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) that he had failed as a home minister to contain the violence, Gogoi said, “In fact all steps have been taken to restore normalcy.”[caption id=“attachment_416388” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi. I will appeal to the people to maintain calm and we are taking all steps to maintain normalcy,” Gogoi said. Altogether 77 persons have lost their lives in the clash between Bodos and immigrants and more than four lakh people rendered homeless. “Of them, one lakh have returned home and we are ensuring that more persons come back,” the chief minister said. “We have reviewed the situation with UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and hopefully everything will be in order,” he said.
